Wikipedia : This day (October 4, 2009), in Buenos Aires, died Mercedes Sosa, an Argentinian singer.
Mercedes Sosa : Actually she is nicknamed “La Negra” because that’s the way in Argentina we called affectously to dark skinned and hair people, is something very common to call people that way in the most affectous way, and Mercedes Sosa was loved and known for everybody in Argentina,
@allmusic : With her repertoire of songs championing human rights and democracy, Sosa was viewed as a serious threat by the military regime which assumed power, and in 1975 she was arrested during a live performance which also resulted in the incarceration of many audience members.
@last.fm : In 1967, Sosa toured with great success the United States and Europe. In subsequent years, she performed and recorded extensively, broadening her repertoire to include material from throughout Latin America.
