Wikipedia : This day (November 29, 1933), in Macclesfield, England, is born John Mayall, an English blues singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.
Official Web Site : In 1969, with his popularity blossoming in the USA, John caused somewhat of a stir with the release of a drummer less acoustic live album entitled The Turning Point, from which his song Room To Move was destined to become a rock classic.
@allmusic : Mayall’s personnel has tended to overshadow his own considerable abilities. Only an adequate singer, the multi-instrumentalist was adept in bringing out the best in his younger charges (Mayall himself was in his thirties by the time the Bluesbreakers began to make a name for themselves).
@last.fm : John Mayall is often referred to as the “Father of the British blues.” His well-known band is still called John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. They started out in the late 1950s in England, using Chicago style blues as a starting basis for their sound, which has evolved from album to album. And while at one point John Mayall was playing a fairly jazzy sound, he has always come back to the blues.
