Three is A Crowd
From ‘Three Note Samba’ to ‘Three For The Festival’ , we have mixed 18 ‘Jazz with a Slice of Latin‘ tunes around the theme of ‘The number “Three”‘. It has Joshua Redman, Nelson Riddle & His Orchestra, Pat Martino, Gary US Bonds and many more.
The Classic Jazz Guitar: In 1962 Charlie Byrd and his trio traveled to South America under the sponsorship of the State Department. When he returned to the US he made the landmark recording with Stan Getz Jazz Samba.
JazzbyMail : Affected by poor vision in his right eye, Bob Wallis had a tendency to march straight on when the rest of the band turned right! It needed a vigorous sideways swipe from Avo”s trombone to keep him on course.
Pat Martino : One of the greatest guitarists in jazz. Martino had suffered a severe brain aneurysm and underwent surgery after being told that his condition could be terminal. After his operations he could remember almost nothing.
Joshua Redman : Joshua Redman‘s set at the Jazz Standard last Thursday showed tremendous equipoise, and the saxophonist wore the boutonniere of stardom so nonchalantly as to render it a useless ornament.
Narada Productions : Ramsey Lewis first captivated fans with his first album “Ramsey Lewis And The Gentlemen of Swing” by the Ramsey Lewis Trio. By 1965, he was one of the nation’s most successful jazz pianists, topping the charts with The In Crowd, Hang On Sloopy and Wade In The Water.
Artist Direct : A limited but enthusiastic singer, Babs Gonzales did what he could to popularize bop. He had brief stints with Charlie Barnet and Lionel Hampton, and then led his own group (Three Bips & a Bop) during 1946-1949
Club Des Belugas on MySpace : Club des Belugas is a lounge-nujazz project, founded by Maxim Illion & Kitty the Bill in 2002 . CdB has released 5 albums so far. Tracks from CdB have been licensed for compilations more than 630 times. In summer 2007 Club des Belugas performed 89 gigs in China.
Distinctly Jamaican Sounds : Leo Graham was originally a member of the harmony trio the Bleechers. The Bleechers cut a bunch of tracks for Lee Perry in the late 60’s and early 70’s and scored big with their hit song “Check Him Out” which happens to appear on numerous Scratch production compilations.
