Wikipedia : This day (November 17, 2006), in Henderson, Nevada, died Ruth Brown, an American singer also known as Queen of R&B.

Official Site : In 1957, Brown crossed over to the pop charts with Leiber and Stoller’s Lucky Lips; the next year she hit again with This Little Girl’s Gone Rockin’, written by Bobby Darin. Yet as rock & roll changed in the late Fifties, Brown fell out of fashion.

@allmusic : They called Atlantic Records the house that Ruth built during the 1950s, and they weren’t referring to the Sultan of Swat. Ruth Brown‘s regal hitmaking reign from 1949 to the close of the ’50s helped tremendously to establish the New York label’s predominance in the R&B field.

@last.fm : Brown’s fight for musicians’ rights and royalties in 1987 led to the founding of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. She was inducted as a Pioneer Award recipient in its first year, 1989. In 1993, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as “The Queen Mother of the Blues”.
