Wikipedia : This day (October 4, 1970), in Hollywood, California, died Janis Joplin, an American singer with (and without) Big Brother and the Holding Company, and later as a solo artist.

Janis Joplin : She claimed the blues, soul, gospel, country and rock with unquestionable authority and verve, fearlessly inhabiting psychedelic guitar jams, back-porch roots and everything in between.

Janis Joplin – Kozmic Blues : . On the June 25 show she announced that she would attend her ten-year high school reunion, although she admitted that when in high school she had been laughed out of class, out of school, out of town, out of the state.

@last.fm : Originally the lead singer for the blues rock band Big Brother & The Holding Company, Joplin left the band in late 1968 for a solo career. She released two solo albums, I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama! (1969) and Pearl (1971), the latter released after her death.
