And the correct answers (in case you missed one or two) are:
1. The title “Leaving Las Vegas” stems from John O’Brien’s novel of the same name. Sheryl Crow’s song nods to O’Brien, who was a friend of her co-writer David Baerwald.
2. Jewel was sixteen when she first strummed the chords of this song. Her youthful sojourns, including hitchhiking, provided the emotional canvas.
3. Blur’s music video cleverly pays homage to the film “Last Year at Marienbad.” Prague lent its streets to the visual allegory.
4. “O Come, All Ye Faithful” marches into Black Grape’s track via sample. A touch of the sacred meets the secular in typical Shaun Ryder style.
5. XTC’s Andy Partridge was inspired by a decaying jack-o’-lantern he had carved. This led to the nascent hero, Peter Pumpkinhead.
6. Björk’s song takes listeners on a journey through animal eyes. Her anthropomorphic lyrics and rhythm create a non-human perspective.
7. Tim Rice penned the English lyrics for Cyndi Lauper’s take on “The World Is Stone.” His knack for adaptation lent the song its global resonance.
8. Super Furry Animals flipped “Naff Gan” to “Ice Hockey Hair,” referring to the mullet hairstyle. Names can be just as quirky as lyrics.
9. The ominous setting of Bush’s video found fame earlier in “Se7en.” Certain locations just scream cinematic potential.
10. No Doubt’s track was recorded for the film “Go.” Its rave setting in the video aligned perfectly with the film’s energy.
11. Skunk Anansie’s second single, closely following “Selling Jesus,” was this track. Momentum was the name of the game.
12. Rob Zombie lent his directorial hand to Prong’s visual narrative. An apt choice, given his flair for the intense.
