Wikipedia : This day (December 21, 1992), in Memphis, Tennessee, died Albert King, an American blues guitarist and singer.

@ Stax Records : He was a master of the single-string solo and could bend strings to produce a particularly tormented blues sound that set his style apart from his contemporaries. A number of prominent artists,from Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix to Mike Bloomfield and Stevie Ray Vaughan, borrowed heavily from King’s guitar style.

@allmusic : King continued to perform until his sudden death in 1992, when he suffered a fatal heart attack on December 21.

@last.fm : King was a left-handed “upside-down/backwards” guitarist. He was left-handed, but usually played right-handed guitars flipped over upside-down so the low E string was on the bottom. In later years he played a custom-made guitar that was basically left-handed, but had the strings reversed (as he was used to playing).
