2. "I Want to Take You Higher" evolved from "Higher," a track on Sly & the Family Stone's 1968 album Dance to the Music.
3. Grover Washington Jr.'s "Let It Flow (For Dr. J)" was recorded at the Newport Jazz Festival on August 13, 1988.
4. Tower of Power performed "Attitude Dance" at the Newport Jazz Festival on 15 August 1992.
5. The Crusaders performed "Street Life" at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1987. Their set included other well-known tracks.
6. King Curtis’s performance of "Memphis Soul Stew" used culinary terms as a metaphor for the song's musical composition.
7. The Ohio Players' "Honey" album was associated with a false cover story, stemming from an urban legend about the cover image.
8. Donald “Duck” Dunn replaced Lewie Steinberg as the bassist for Booker T. & the M.G.'s, contributing to their sound in later years.
9. Joe Tex’s "Skinny Legs and All" was recorded in September 1967 and released in October of the same year.
10. The Voices of East Harlem performed "Run Shaker Life" at the Tanglewood Music Center on August 18, 1970.
