And the correct answers (in case you missed one or two) are:
1. Jim Yukich directed the music video for Mike + The Mechanics’ song. The narrative shares elements with the “Silent Running” video released in 1986.
2. “Love Attack” by Shakin’ Stevens was released on 1 May 1989. That date marks its entry into the late 1980s hit parade.
3. Guy Johnson, a pianist, wrote Status Quo’s single. It made its appearance on their album “Back to Back” in both its original and extended forms.
4. The phrase “Come on down to my rescue” is repeated in Echo & the Bunnymen’s “Rescue”. It’s a memorable lyrical highlight from their debut.
5. Belouis Some reached number 13 on the U.S. Dance/Club Play chart in 1987. UK chart positions didn’t paint as pretty a picture, reaching only number 53.
6. “Forever’s just a day away” is central in Barclay James Harvest’s 1983 track. It’s a repeated motif in their characteristic rock narrative style.
7. Blue Zoo’s single featured a UK limited edition 7″ single in pig-shaped yellow vinyl. Not your average slice of audio bacon in 1983.
8. Texas’s track from “Southside” is characterized by a guitar-driven arrangement. Sharleen Spiteri’s vocal prowess is prominently featured.
9. Graeme Kelling played guitar in Deacon Blue’s “Fergus Sings the Blues”. The track also features a lively horn section.
10. “The War Song” influenced The Cult’s “Spiritwalker”. Although penned during their Death Cult phase, it awaited recording in its final guise.
11. The Motörhead single included “Turn You Round Again” as the B-side. This 1983 release was a case study in B-side resurrection during reissues.
12. Rush’s track was inspired by the first launch of the Space Shuttle Columbia. Synthesizers and live NASA audio added a unique liftoff vibe.
