Wikipedia : This day (July 17, 1967 ), in Huntington, New York City, died John Coltrane, an American jazz saxophonist and composer.

John Coltrane : Eventually adding players like Eric Dolphy, and Pharoah Sanders. The John Coltrane Quartet created some of the most innovative and expressive music in Jazz history including the hit albums: My Favorite Things, Africa Brass, Impressions, Giant Steps, and his monumental work A Love Supreme which attests to the power, glory, love, and greatness of God.

John Coltrane, Avant Garde Jazz and the Evolution of My Favorite Things : The main attraction here is my academic thesis, wherein I explore the evolution of Coltrane’s increasingly avant garde style from 1960 to 1965 by comparing four different recordings of My Favorite Things.

@last.fm : Rather, he is influential by example, inspiring musicians to experiment, take chances, and devote themselves to their craft. The controversy about his work has never died down, but partially as a result, his name lives on and his recordings continue to remain available and to be reissued frequently.
