Wikipedia : This day (February 7, 2009 ), in New York City, USA, died Margrete Blossom Dearie, an American jazz singer and pianist.

Official Site : From New York she traveled to Paris where she recorded an album for Nicole and Eddie Barclay, and when Norman Granz stopped in and heard her; he asked that she record for him when she returned to the States.

@allmusic : Her warmth and sparkle ensured that she’d never treat standards as the well-worn songs they often appeared in less capable hands.

@last.fm : After signing to Verve, Dearie returned to the U.S. where, despite developing a successful career and achieving international fame, by 1974 the lack of interest from major labels led her to start her own label, Daffodil Records.
