And the correct answers (in case you missed one or two) are:
1. Bryan Adams completed “Hearts On Fire” in Vancouver. It’s a testament to a city known for more than just hockey riots and steamed dim sum.
2. George Jones first recorded “The Race Is On” in 1964. Rock and roll wasn’t ready for its country crossover until Dave Edmunds and Stray Cats gave it a spin.
3. “Let My Love Open the Door” was Pete Townshend’s only solo top 10 hit in the US. The song’s popularity proves that going solo sometimes really opens the door to new opportunities.
4. “Beds Are Burning” was inspired by the impact of colonization on Aboriginal Australians. Midnight Oil used rock music to address serious issues, one catchy chorus at a time.
5. “Difficult to Cure” is the Rainbow album with the track recorded at Sweet Silence Studios. Despite its title, this album encountered no difficulty climbing the charts in 1981.
6. Cologne hosted the live recording of “Mayfair” by The Quireboys in 1990. Cologne: famous for its cathedral, eau de toilette, and apparently, live rock recordings.
7. “Prayer” reached No. 78 on the UK Singles Chart. Claytown Troupe may not have incited a chart-topping revival, but penance wasn’t required for their efforts.
8. “Life on Mars?” was David Bowie’s parody response to “My Way.” If the song didn’t strain your brain, it might also inspire a TV series about time-traveling detectives.
9. Queen transposed the live version of this rock song to F major. Key change or not, Brian May’s solos remain delightfully over-the-top.
10. “It’s So Easy” was primarily written by Duff McKagan. The song embodies the carefree yet cash-strapped lifestyle of Guns N’ Roses’ early days.
11. “Goodnight Saigon” appears on Billy Joel’s album “The Nylon Curtain.” The song paints a picture of Marines with more precision than a New York seamstress.
12. The Quireboys released their debut as a studio single. “Mayfair” didn’t just stay local despite strong Cockney roots, it aimed for broader UK rock aspirations.
