And the correct answers (in case you missed one or two) are:
1. The music video for “Shelter Me” by Cinderella was honored by the New York Times and included in their list of 15 Essential Hair-Metal Videos. The video’s cast made it a standout piece.
2. Tom Petty’s song from the album “Wildflowers” earned him a Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. This marked a high point in his career during the mid-’90s.
3. Roni Size’s “Brown Paper Bag” music video was shot in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It featured cityscapes and a unique time-loop narrative concept.
4. “The Frog Princess” by The Divine Comedy cleverly integrates the French national anthem within its playful orchestration. The song features a mix of brass and synths.
5. Toto’s “I Will Remember” is a heartfelt tribute to their former drummer Jeff Porcaro. His untimely passing in 1992 marked a loss deeply felt by the band.
6. “Blue Skies” was created from Tori Amos’s spontaneous improvisation. BT edited the vocal session to form unique words and phrases for the track.
7. “Play Dead” is prominently featured in the soundtrack of the film “The Young Americans.” This contributed to its status as a hit single outside Björk’s album releases.
8. Alice in Chains released “Grind” early to counteract a bootlegged version. This decision helped manage the band’s control over their music’s spread.
9. Stereophonics’ live performances of their song sometimes reference “Ace of Spades” by Motörhead. Lead singer Kelly Jones incorporates these nods during concerts.
10. “Let’s Get Tattoos” by Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine highlights themes of rebellion and personal freedom. The lyrics play with wordplay typical of punk-pop style.
11. Embrace’s debut single “All You Good Good People” saw just 1,300 copies at its initial release. These limited editions are now much sought after by collectors.
12. “Goddess on a Highway” was rediscovered 9 years after it was written by Jonathan Donahue. The track’s revival helped shape Mercury Rev’s album “Deserter’s Songs.”
