And the correct answers (in case you missed one or two) are:
1. “Après la pluie vient le beau temps” is a classic French saying meaning “after the rain comes the sunshine.” It offers a hopeful outlook, much like the twisting melody of the track itself.
2. Ringo Starr’s song “Weight of the World” was penned by Brian O’Doherty and Fred Velez. Their lyrics opened up new directions for Starr’s post-Beatles solo career.
3. The song title “Female of the Species” pays homage to Rudyard Kipling’s poem. Kipling knew a catchy phrase when he saw one, and so did Space.
4. Ben Folds Five made use of a continuous take for their video, showcasing their tight ensemble work both musically and visually.
5. “Beautiful Dream” came from World Party’s “Egyptology,” and it charted uniquely from this album. Wallinger’s singular vision continued uninterrupted.
6. Ruth Gottlieb’s string contributions can be heard on Kenickie’s “I Would Fix You.” Subtle sophistication wasn’t lost on these spirited indie rockers.
7. A six-minute runtime for “Tiny Machine” by The Darling Buds was indeed tiny compared to epics but quite grand for their catalog.
8. Ricky Warwick didn’t need help writing “Do You Understand,” but Chris Sheldon did manage the production details thoroughly.
9. The Manic Street Preachers released their track as a double A-side with “P.C.P.,” a smart way to sneak two ambitious songs into listeners’ lives.
10. Boy George added his voice to P.M. Dawn’s “More Than Likely,” lending his pop icon credibility to their hip-hop infused melodies.
11. Steve Lillywhite became the guiding hand behind Morrissey’s “Hold On to Your Friends,” a partnership that played to both of their strengths.
12. Sinéad donated proceeds from her EP to the International Red Cross Kurdish Relief Program, using her music to advocate humanitarian causes.
