And the correct answers (in case you missed one or two) are:
1. Randy Crawford first popularized “You Might Need Somebody” before Shola Ama gave it a fresh take. The song gained international attention again in the 90s.
2. C. J. Snare wrote “Love of a Lifetime” while performing solo gigs at a Holiday Inn lounge. A far cry from the big stages the song would later grace.
3. Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones (Part II)” provided the sample for Mariah Carey’s song. Merging hip-hop elements with pop showcased Carey’s diverse influences.
4. In the “Hold on My Heart” video, Genesis used a visual slow-motion effect. The trick was achieved by overcranking the film playback during the shoot.
5. While Cynthia’s “Change on Me” did well on some dance charts, it did not crack the Billboard Hot 100. A dance floor favorite but not quite a mainstream hit.
6. “Song for Love” is part of Extreme’s “Pornograffitti” album. The release mixes genres, capturing the band’s musical versatility.
7. The duet version of the Meat Loaf ballad features Patti Russo. Their collaboration was also highlighted on “The Very Best Of” tour performances.
8. The House of Love’s guitarist Simon Walker left over musical differences. A new era for the band shortly ensued under the guidance of Simon Mawby.
9. Sonia performed “Better the Devil You Know” at the Eurovision Song Contest. Her lively performance clinched the UK a respectable second place.
10. Simply Red’s “Thrill Me” achieved a notable number 5 chart position in Zimbabwe. Clearly, the band’s appeal reached well beyond its native shores.
11. Rebbie Jackson’s “Yours Faithfully” was released under MJJ Music, Michael Jackson’s label. It marked a familial bond and her musical return.
12. Basia’s single from “London Warsaw New York” is about the end of her relationship with Danny White. The split influenced her artistic output powerfully.
