And the correct answers (in case you missed one or two) are:

1. “Here Comes the Hammer” samples James Brown’s “Super Bad.” Hammer’s rapid-fire rhymes with the energetic synth line helped the song reach impressive international chart positions, even though it only peaked at 54 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

2. “Cold World” features the sound of a snowstorm in the background, setting the scene for GZA’s gritty New Year’s Eve narrative. The production, handled by RZA, combines samples from various genres.

3. By blending hip hop with rock, Credit to the Nation’s “Teenage Sensation” topped indie charts. Touring with rock acts helped broaden their audience, leading to this cross-genre success.

4. Aaliyah’s “Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number” was produced by R. Kelly, who also wrote the song. The controversial lyrics discuss a young girl’s romantic interest in an older man.

5. LSG’s “My Body” was kept from the top three on the Billboard Hot 100 by Usher’s “You Make Me Wanna… and others. Despite this, the song achieved platinum certification in the US.

6. D’Angelo’s version of “Cruisin'” features a prominent trumpet played by Bob “Bassy” Brockmann. It’s the longest track on his “Brown Sugar” album.

7. The Maccabees took six hours to film the music video for “About Your Dress.” This quick production contrasts with its chart performance, being the band’s highest-ranking single at the time.

8. Ian Dury provided vocals for Madness’s “Drip Fed Fred,” one of his last recordings. The collaboration added emotional depth, given Dury’s impending passing.

9. CSS’s “Off the Hook” gained exposure in the video game “Forza Motorsport 2.” The band’s eclectic style helped it reach international markets.

10. Ewan Pearson produced Tracey Thorn’s “It’s All True,” leading to a single that peaked at 75 in the UK. Pearson also collaborated on her subsequent releases.

11. Jimmy Eat World’s “Always Be” music video was filmed at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. The video focuses on a budding connection during a school trip.

12. “Save The World, Get The Girl” features prominent ska rhythms. The King Blues were known for merging punk, ska, and hip-hop with politically charged lyrics.
