Wikipedia : This day (September 7, 1949), in Newark, New Jersey, is born Gloria Gaynor, an American singer known for her hits I Will Survive and Never Can Say Goodbye
Gloria Gaynor : She was 19 when she signed her first record contract. In 1973, Gloria made history as Billboard gave birth to the Disco Action Charts. Never Can Say Good-Bye bowed at #1 on the charts and became the first Dance Song to reach #1 status in dance music.
@ allmusic : Perhaps second only to Donna Summer, she has become one of the best-known female disco artists from the ’70s due to the ongoing success of her monster 1979 hit (and subsequent woman’s anthem), I Will Survive.
@ last.fm : Capitalizing on the success of her first album, she quickly released her second album Experience Gloria Gaynor later that same year. While this album was also successful, it was not quite as popular as her previous album in the mainstream.
