Xiu Xiu exits Spotify stage left over CEO’s AI war drone side hustle

Xiu Xiu initiates a quiet exodus from Spotify, following Deerhoof’s recent withdrawal. The catalyst: CEO Daniel Ek’s investment in Helsing, an AI defense contractor through his fund, Prima Materia.

The band denounces profits from streaming being funneled into “AI war drones,” calling Spotify a “garbage hole violent Armageddon portal.” Labels Polyvinyl, Kill Rock Stars, and Graveface back the decision, with removals pending minor procedural delays.
