Avril Lavigne drags ex Deryck Whibley out of retirement—for one song
Avril Lavigne resurfaces the past with a not-so-surreptitious cameo by ex-husband Deryck Whibley during her Warped Tour set in DC. Midway through her performance, she calls Whibley—recently retired from Sum 41—on stage to perform the band’s early-2000s anthem “In Too Deep.”
With mock-exhaustion, Whibley jests about quitting music before sharing his brief return is “for the Warped Tour family” and “the princess.” Post-show, Lavigne praises the moment on Instagram, calling the track one of pop-punk’s anthems.
