Travis Scott borrows Cudi’s name and teenage angst to launch his rap dreams

Travis Scott credits Kid Cudi with convincing him that rap was a viable path, recalling “Soundtrack 2 My Life” as mirroring his own adolescence. Hearing it in high school, he claims he instantly felt a fraternal link to Cudi’s narrative of isolation and ambition.

Scott recalls one of his earliest concerts, where Cudi’s LED-lit entrance felt like a revelation. The connection runs deeper than fandom; “Scott” in Travis Scott is borrowed from Scott Mescudi’s birth name.

They later collaborated on 2016’s “Thru the Late Night,” and on tracks like “THE SCOTTS” and “LOOOVE.”
