Oak Park native Don Was, both producer and Blue Note Records president, orchestrates a musical union that stretches across Detroit’s fragmented neighborhoods. The Pan-Detroit Ensemble, his latest endeavor, gathers disparate musicians in a performance that gestures drily at the city’s erratic but persistent music heartbeat.
