Pete Townshend trades power chords for solo shows as The Who calls it a tour

Pete Townshend confirms post-Who ambitions with a pivot toward solo “one-man shows,” once the band's final U.S. tour, ironically named “The Song Is Over,” puts its instruments down. Sixteen dates, one last encore, and a nod to 1971—no hidden surprises, just a graceful exit.

Still allergic to extended stage-life, Townshend turns instead to “The Age of Anxiety,” a 140-track mosaic birthed from a novel, laced with mental health, selfish artists, and characters teetering between psychic clairvoyance and performance aspirations.

His rapport with Roger Daltrey remains utilitarian at best—fraught with tonal misfires and health commentary. Yet, promises linger for sporadic reunions “for charity and possibly for special projects,” as they continue to co-steward the relics of The Who’s legacy.
