Bobby Whitlock, co-founder and keyboardist of Derek and the Dominos, dies at 77, leaving behind traces of Memphis grit and Stax-imbued musicianship. His contributions extend beyond "Layla," brushing against classic rock mythology through participation in George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass and Eric Clapton’s 1970 self-titled record.
More than a backing presence, Whitlock’s fingerprint is etched into the blues-rock machinery of the era, threading organ lines and soul into an otherwise guitar-centric narrative.
