Smashing Truth: Billy Corgan Notes Youth's Quest for Raw Music Authenticity

In a candid exchange with Brian Haddad and Kenzie Roman of Chicago's Q101, Billy Corgan reveals a fascinating insight into the youthful embrace of SMASHING PUMPKINS' timeless tracks. The iconic frontman suggests that today's music aficionados are on a quest not for flashy production but for something more profound.

Corgan believes this generation is on the hunt for genuine authenticity in music. In an age where artifice is rampant, the enduring appeal of the band's classic works lies in their raw, unvarnished truth.

Corgan argues Joy Division’s post-pop minimalism carved out an aesthetic still detectable in production techniques, more so than in direct sound references.

He likens their elusive influence to that of The Velvet Underground and remarks on their singular position in shaping what followed, consciously or not.

In an Instagram post steeped in nostalgia and blurred permanence, he signals a musical absence that oddly lingers, suggesting Sabbath now lives more in memory than in sound.
