XG swerves J-pop and Western lanes with a Paris runway-ready debut album
Executive producer JAKOPS (SIMON) peels back the layers on XG's new chapter, declaring the upcoming debut album a true beginning rather than a culmination. The lead track “GALA,” conceived during a frenetic post-Coachella timetable and debuted at his wedding, sidesteps both J-pop and Western formulas, choosing a hybrid sonic path influenced by European house and Paris Fashion Week aesthetics.
Produced mostly in Korea with sweeping intensity, the album takes cues from genre-shifting sources like Otomo’s AKIRA and Balinese instrumentation. XG’s rapid ascent—including a Coachella set and Tokyo Dome—mirrors a blueprint long imagined by its creative team, who now treat “global standards” less as aspiration than operating mode.
