Jarvis Cocker returns with Pulp, crowd reacts like it’s 1995 all over again

A velvet curtain draws the audience into a retro fantasy, as a calm voice sets the tone: “This is an encore. An encore occurs because the audience wants more.” Pulp returns to a full house, buoyed by a long break and a freshly minted album, More, released not 24 hours prior to showtime.

Opening with Spike Island, met with nostalgic cheers, Jarvis Cocker rises theatrically beside cardboard bandmates echoing their Different Class era. Old favorites and new tracks intersect: Farmer’s Market leans into Sunrise, while new entry Got to Have Love nods to the disco of O.U. (Gone, Gone).

The stage, a vintage chatshow dream with glowing stairs and kitsch backdrops, frames Cocker in corduroy—half raconteur, half lounge philosopher—perched, sprawled, and always in control. The crowd leans in, neither clinging to the past nor resisting the present.
