Still standing after 50 years, the Damned reunite with a live show and their first album together since 1995, fueled not by nostalgia but by the financial reality of never having “got stinking rich.” Their shifting sound reflects internal dissonance: Dave Vanian’s theatrical melancholy clashing with Captain Sensible’s syrup-dripped pop instincts and Rat Scabies’ mod-tinged punch.
Three breakups and decades of feuding frame their saga—a rotating carousel of exiles, reconciliations, and creative combustion. Vanian remains the only constant, steering through chaos with irony rather than sentiment.
